- Criminal History Check: Please note that ALL applicants must submit the results of a FBI fingerprint-based background check in order to be considered for an AmeriCorps position. There is a cost associated with requesting a background check, but if you are selected for one of the positions, we will reimburse you for the cost of the background check. You must make copies of all background check request documentation and save any and all receipts in order to be reimbursed. For specific information about how to request a background check from the FBI, please visit this website.
However, please do not use the applicant information form included on the FBI website. Please click here for the copy of the form that you should use, with the program director’s name and SCALE’s office address listed as the place to send the results. Results must be sent directly to NC LiteracyCorps program staff and not to your home address. We cannot accept criminal history record information directly from the subject of the record, as there would be no way to verify that the information contained on the record had not been altered. The results can take up to 12 weeks from the time you send in the request, so interested applicants should go ahead and start the process immediately.
