During the Week of Service and Remembrance (September 5-16, 2016), NC LiteracyCorps members mobilized learners, volunteers and members of the community by engaging in numerous types of service projects. Some members worked to bring EMS professionals or police officers to their host sites to engage in dialogue about how to serve communities. Other sites took collective action to show appreciation for a variety of first responders including fire fighters and EMS responders. One site took their learners to the VA to engage in a dialogue to recognize and honor veterans.   Many sites incorporated the history of 9/11 into lessons for youth and adults in various ways to discuss the affects 9/11 had on various communities of people. One message rang clear through these various service projects, community members are stronger when they team up and serve together for the great good!
